It’s the commercial property industry’s most prestigious awards ceremony, and sees the likes of The Crown Estate, Land Securities and British Land go head to head to compete for some of the most sought after accolades in the business.
And at last night’s Estates Gazette Awards, held at the London Hilton, Park Lane, Hull-based student accommodation firm, the Kexgill Group, came out on top after storming the ‘Specialist Company of the Year’ category.
With the student experience at the heart of its operations, which span nine student cities, including Hull, Liverpool. Leeds, Nottingham, Preston, Salford, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Bradford, the Kexgill Group has garnered a national reputation for customer service excellence.
Its commitment to simply ‘being a good landlord’ was commended by judges at last night’s ceremony – amongst them, representatives from Google, J.P. Morgan Cazenove, Deloitte Real Estate, Arup Associates and the British Property Federation.
“We’re students’ parents away from home,” explains Richard Stott, Managing Director of the firm, “so we don’t go for fancy freebies and gimmicky promotional deals. We prefer to ensure that, whatever the situation, our tenants have a friendly face to turn to and the peace of mind that any issue will be rectified swiftly and efficiently.”
Judges were also suitably impressed by Kexgill’s ambitious expansion plans, which saw the company acquire and develop properties in both Middlesbrough and Stockton during 2015 and, as a result, secure the highest forward letting figures in the group’s 36-year history.
“2015 has proved to be our best letting and student recognition year ever, which is down to the hard work of each and every member of the Kexgill team, so this award is just the icing on the cake.
“We were up against some huge and very worthy names, and we never expected that a northern student accommodation company would win such an accolade, but this success demonstrates our capability to compete with other providers on a national and very competitive playing field.”
The award was presented by actress Joanna Lumley.
Established in 1978 by Dr. Mike Lee, Kexgill is a returning student accommodation provider and the only organisation offering both Halls and Houses in Multiple Occupation in nine UK cities. Serving Preston, Salford, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Stockton, Bradford, Leeds, Hull and Nottingham, the Kexgill Group owns 2,800 student beds nationwide along with 430 multi-family apartments in Germany, and boasts a combined asset value in excess of £105m.
